We can't expect to win a suit against the oil companies just because WE (our whole civilization) has developed to be completely dependent on fossil fuel to avoid a complete collapse of everything we know and take for granted.
.
Fossil fuel allowed us.
.
But on the other hand it could be argued that some of the profits should be allocated toward developing a path to a sustainable future of some sort.
.
Eventually the tragedy of the commons must end to consider resources to be world heritage commodities to be carefully shared and conserved. We are all stuck together on one planet.
.
What will they think of us in 200-1,000 years from now? Will they look back and hate us for totally blowing through our one time primordial gift in a near total waste?
