I would often curse the early flip phones with color screens. The old B/W LCDs didn't require a backlight to read, and in fact became more readable the more sunlight there was. Then color was introduced, which added no value to a dumb phone, and then the backlight was required in all lighting conditions and was unreadable in bright sunlight.
Modern phones to this day suffer from being barely readable in sunlight.
Whew, All Darc finally got me to rant about LCD!
