But looking the deatils of the prop we see no very clear knob.




The tricorder used a small CRT. Even in 23 century they didn't fixed the damn LCD screens.



Knobs and pressinf buttons are important. Imagine a LCD touch screen, sencible, able to activate a detonation with a simple touch (perhaps accidental).
That' why the navigation console from bright, from Star Trek V to Star Trek VI went back a bit, for some commands, to pressinf buttons and simlars.
