Today was the start of me and my older brother's trip to Montana to visit family. It is supposedly something like 4000 miles round trip. Today we did around 900 miles. Since my brother is decidedly NOT a hypermiler, but is somewhat willing to compromise, we have mostly been driving the speed limit(70 mph usually) without A/C. The only tank so far yielded 39.1 MPG. I inadvertently adjusted the scangauge towards the wrong direction(pessimistic), but my despite that, my next shift of driving ended at 40.3 MPG(indicated). We'll find out tomorrow what the tank ends up being.
The grill block came off pretty early in the trip due to traffic and overheating, and will likely stay off for the foreseeable future. Thankfully my undertray has been holding up very well at high speeds. I don't even know its there!
Speaking of things I didn't know were there...
That would be the outline from a pair of pliers which have been hiding under the seat for about 5 months.
We stopped in Carbondale Illinois for lunch at Quatro's pizza. I neglected to take pictures of the pizza cause it was too tasty. Really looking forward to some Portillos on the way back.
After pizza we detoured to the Kinkaid lake spillway, climbed the path around the waterfall, and took some pictures.(can't access pictures yet)
Some scenery shots: (More will be added when I get back, some pictures were taken with a camera whose memory we can't access right now)
I have finally been shown the light as far as making pictures full size in forum posts, so enjoy the full size pictures!
5/10 edit: I INTENDED on updating the trip every day, but will probably wait until later.
5/17 edit: Made it back alive. We did 4805 miles in 8 days, and averaged 41.45 MPG over the fillups that are recorded thus far(about ready for another fillup as we got back).
