obvious news is obvious
So I took yesterday afternoon off and went kayaking. (First boating of any kind this year, and a beautiful day!)
Effect of the open de-Kammed hatchback...
Not surprisingly, there was a pretty big impact: 67 mpg US round trip on back roads where I'd expect to see ~70 mpg in this kind of mild weather (23C / 73F). ~100 km round trip, total.
That doesn't sound too terrible, right? Until I looked at my average speed at the end of the day, which was also 4 mph lower than I'd normally average while getting said better MPG.
Blame the ScanGauge feedback loop: I guess I was target driving to keep the instant MPG from suffering as much as it would have otherwise.
How nuts is it to cut a big hole in the hatch? I'm half way to talking myself into it.
