Nowadays, it's the Ultra-right, decrying it as a globalist-leftist conspiracy to weaken American industrial might.

I chortle at that abrupt about-face.
For me,I probably began my descent in grade school,in the late 1950s,when the radio reported on Roger Revelle's research from Mauna Loa,Hawaii.
In college,a 1974 text on internal combustion and air pollution addressed global warming/carbon dioxide.
We'd already been through the October 23,1973 Arab Oil Embargo (energy crisis).
An influential engineering professor of mine,Dr.Koe,instructed us such, that our mission as future engineers, was to do the most with the least. And that engineers always got the s..t jobs.
I went to college to understand fuel economy and pollution.
Those who believe in left-wing conspiracies will get a lot of positive reinforcement. If I were them I'd be doing exactly as they are.
The 1st Amendment is protected here, and given a certain context, you can see a coherent logic within many arguments against climate change. And there are hundreds of billions of dollars in investments riding on policy decisions. You'd expect people to defend their income and those of shareholders whom are invested.
It's a very interesting time to be around. And comical.
