Just as a thought experiment for myself, I scaled my car, as well as the u haul sports trailer in sketchup, and put the template over them. The trailer is a little shallower angle than the template, but it also is much lower than the template following off the end of the Forester. So, it appears it would be fully in the car's wake, so maybe it wouldn't destroy the milage too bad. I'm new to this aero thing, so I don't know if the ideal would be to have the trailer up higher, and more closely matched to the template. Also, interestingly, the tongue is only 32" inches long to the point of the trailer, so u haul was clearly trying to minimize the gap as much as possible.
