comparison values between 30mpg/54.5mpg
I ran some quick calcs. using 13,746 miles per year/per vehicle,$2.50/gallon for fuel, and a light vehicle population of 220,000,000 vehicles.(from the World Almanac)
With a CAFE of 30-mpg,instead of 54.5 mpg, over the course of a 12-year vehicle lifespan,American motorists will see:
*an extra 543,787,200,000 gallons fuel consumption.
*at an extra $1,359,468,000,000 expense
*And an additional 10,658,230,000,000-pounds of CO2 released into the atmosphere (@ 19.6-pounds/gallon)
