What scientific projections had both polar ice caps melting by 2010?

They are both melting more quickly than they had been projected to, even just a few years ago.

Antarctica has gone from record large area in just 2014 - to now a record low, just 4 years later.

The Arctic is now open during part of the year, and scientists are starting to map it.
