The problem of this closed system, in case of natural environment get too unsave, it's that you can just have a limited number of people living inside.

In Logan's Run they didn't have a birth controll system, but a death controll system, the Carousel. "When get 30's you are out." But let's tell people that they just reborn (renewal), and they will go happilly there, just like in a religion.

Like said your friend JBP : "Act like if God exists".
And it have a huge advantage over birth control systems, since it cuts a lot of medical expenses and back pain.

Why a domed city? They already have a problem with urban heat island effect. Turning them into a greenhouse would certainly fry them. Maybe Anchorage could stand to benefit from a dome.

I visited the beachcombers museum on the island of Texel.
The newest additions to it are fossil mammoth molars and the like.
Fossil mammoth molars are heavy as bricks. They don't wash ashore. So, how do they end up on the beach?

The rising seas erode our sandy beaches and threaten to undercut the dunes. So, sand ships go out into the North Sea, well away from land, scoop up sandy ice age deposits from the sea bottom and spray it out, many thousands of tonnes per island per year, over the beaches to keep up with sea rise.
While the biggest objects get 'filtered' out, anything brick-sized just passes through the pumps for the beachcombers to harvest.
We used to have natural and unaided buildup. Now we need training moles to ward off erosion and sand suppletion to keep up with the rise.

This summer broke almost all local records regarding heat, number of hot days, highest minimal daytime temp ever (up from 20.8 C to 23.4 C !) and drought. We've had a few weeks of heavy rain and thunderstorms, but still shipping is restricted in many places because the water level is too low for ships to pass or locks to function. Only the top soil is wet, it has a deep dry zone underneath.

It is just weather, not climate change ... why do we break weather records almost every year, and almost all of them this year?

Just for the record, the novel "Logan's Run" doesn't have any domed cities in it. It takes place in a world-wide civilization much similar to our own with billions of people, lots of cities and parks and giant towers and huge robot ants, all of which were absent in the movie.

The movie had a more limited budget, and so they thought up the 'dome' thing.

As far as I know, there aren't scientific predictions of meters per century. Mostly I read about a foot per century.

Yeah the ipcc craziest number was I believe was 1m per century and they backed off that claim around 10 years ago.
Now they are saying something to the tune of 8 inches per century I believe.
But some people think their alarmist predictions are better than the ipcc predictions.

The other thing to keep in mind about the warming predictions is that they also include assumptions that the world economy will triple the 2010 value by 2050. taking fossil fuel use up also in that range as it goes. This is a very optimistic economic prediction which will probably not be possible as we approach hard resource limits.

The latest estimates are as much as 2 to 2.5 meters this century.
