There is an old demonstration house around here somewhere ... they took down the web site a few years ago.
Solar 'greenhouse' painted black inside, white outside, 6 inches of insulation in the walls. Triple glazed windows are the 'top' facing the sun. Inside the greenhouse is rocks/stones painted black with big bunches of holes between(10 inch rocks or larger). Sun just warms the rocks directly. You draw air through the heated rocks when heat is required. Not great efficiency, but it works. Need more heat storage, add more rocks in a larger greenhouse.
Um .. maybe gravity dampers and a small duct to keep air leakage low while it is warming and you don't have the fan drawing air through. ... don't remember all of the details.
I'm sure that the idea has been refined since I saw the demonstration house 20 years ago.
