The anti-nuke crowd has very unconvincing reasons for being anti-nuke. Nuclear weapon proliferation... North Korea, among the most difficult places to develop nuclear weapons, already has it. Proliferation will occur independently of nuclear power.

Almost all of the fallout has been washed away by the weather, if not for deliberate cleaning up. Radiation levels are now low enough to be not significantly harmful in most places. Geiger tellers remain mandatory though.
I don't think this project is a showcase for the safety of nuclear energy.
Of course most powerplants are much safer than Chernobyl was, yet Belgium had to shut down yet another nuclear reactor due to construction faults - in the last case reinforced concrete was only reinforced on the drawings, not in reality.
