Just because you can get the same effect for yourself for less money doesn't make it a rip off. Tesla sells well designed, well made (yes) products that perform very well. They're premium products priced for early adopters.
They raised the price of the power wall this year, I'm going to guess it wasn't because the cost of battery production but because of the line of customers trying to throw money at them. Market pricing doesn't feel good to the little guy, but that doesn't make it a rip off.
