It does surprise me that the age of internet did not result in the decline of marketing effectiveness. You'd think that having the answer to any question you have at your fingertips would mean people research prior to purchase so that they are informed, but yet we rely on marketing to inform us, and experts to decide everything for us.
I do miss the old advertisements where they would describe the features of the product they are selling. Nowadays, a car commercial shows a CG version of a car dancing to music, then the commercial ends, and we all feel dumber afterwards.
