Well, I know for sure it works now. In stop and go traffic with 32F ambient temperature I saw as high as 155F. On the move, the temperature was more like 130F. Definitely not going to be suitable for summer use! Traffic prevented me from getting an idea on the improvement it makes.
Update:
The dryer hose warm air intake was a failure on this car. I never saw improved mileage, likely due to the cooling fan running a lot even with normal coolant temps. I think the ECU interprets intake temperature as engine bay temperature, and runs the cooling fans if it sees a large temperature difference between outside and intake temps. Might be able to address this by exposing the outside temperature sensor to hot temps too, but I really don't feel like doing this again.
