Oh, and on the question of other possibilities for a trans mod... an obvious simple mod would be taller wheel/tire combos. You have the 4x100 bolt pattern and 14" wheels were probably stock on your car (depending on trim level, I think). So swap to a 15" wheel an taller tires, the effect is taller gearing. I am running 15" seven hole rims from a first gen MINI.
