Up until last year the Walmarts I frequent would take them for the $1.50? disposal fee.
Not sure if this is true of all walmarts, a screw ruined a tire on the Elantra and I already had 4 new tires for it, I had her take it in where she lives and replace both on that axle, they took those and I wanted to save one. Same size as the cobalts. Maybe because she's a girl or just a different manager? She still has the other 2 in the trunk that keep telling her to go have them put on so curious to see if they will take them again. I'm OK either way either they take them for $1.50 or I mount them on extra cobalt rims and use them up then pay $8, they probably have 2-30,000 more miles in them.
It's been quite a while since I've paid a bike shop to do one. IIRC it was $25 16+ years ago to do a carry in, buy it from them mounting included if you carried wheel in. I'd ride in and pull the wheel off outside and carry in (independent shop). When a $200 rear of the FZ1 was installed and removed in the same month I realized I couldn't keep buying tires from the shop, was 2002. A 3,000 miles month, rear tire per mile cost was more than gas at 45 mpg.
Last I heard from a nephew, bike shops charge $50 now carry in, ride in can be over $100.
The amount I used to ride was one of the main reasons for wanting a VFR with single sided swing arm.
