Up until last year the Walmarts I frequent would take them for the $1.50? disposal fee.

Not sure if this is true of all walmarts, a screw ruined a tire on the Elantra and I already had 4 new tires for it, I had her take it in where she lives and replace both on that axle, they took those and I wanted to save one. Same size as the cobalts. Maybe because she's a girl or just a different manager? She still has the other 2 in the trunk that keep telling her to go have them put on so curious to see if they will take them again. I'm OK either way either they take them for $1.50 or I mount them on extra cobalt rims and use them up then pay $8, they probably have 2-30,000 more miles in them.

It's been quite a while since I've paid a bike shop to do one. IIRC it was $25 16+ years ago to do a carry in, buy it from them mounting included if you carried wheel in. I'd ride in and pull the wheel off outside and carry in (independent shop). When a $200 rear of the FZ1 was installed and removed in the same month I realized I couldn't keep buying tires from the shop, was 2002. A 3,000 miles month, rear tire per mile cost was more than gas at 45 mpg.

Last I heard from a nephew, bike shops charge $50 now carry in, ride in can be over $100.

The amount I used to ride was one of the main reasons for wanting a VFR with single sided swing arm.

Yeesh, been a few years since I had a tire changed on the bike. I seem to remember somewhere around $25 too, since they balance.

I was going through rears every 3,000 miles also, but then again I rode like a hooligan. Fronts seemed to almost last as long as 3 rears.

I've got a new front on now that is different than my rear, and I question if that is ok, but since rears wear out so quickly anyhow, I should have the matching rear tire on it soon.

I almost never had matching tires once I had to start replacing them. Even ran radial on front bias on back of the Concours to get a rear that would last longer.

In my youth, I once went on a 1hr exactly joyride. I came back after having put on exactly 100 miles on the odometer. That included going the 25 MPH speed limit through a small town.

I had been accustomed to riding at the 90% limit on the streets, so performance was a concern of mine. I'm not sure how much it matters performance wise to match tires, but it's something I'd be curious to know before taking foolish risks.

Now I stick around the 75% limit since track days satisfied my curiosity about the limits. It's still fun to flirt with the top end from time to time though.
