Hey, I'm sympathetic to your desire for independence and freedom (my sarcastic signature advertises this).
Though I slightly lean Libertarian (rather than authoritarian), I'd probably offend the base with some of my opinions concerning protecting the commons and some minimum social safety nets. There's a certain sweet spot of maximizing freedom and creativity while providing parameters for behavior to organize society.
