Like carbon fiber, but from flax!

Porsche is making parts for its new 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport that look like carbon fiber, but it is flax, requires 75% less energy to produce than CF, can be ground down and reused (instead of burned at very high temperatures to disposed of), and "has five times better vibration dampening properties than carbon fiber, so it doesn't splinter when hit hard."

The new doors, made from flax, weigh 13% more than the old ones, made from carbon fiber, and it is not as strong, so they can only use it on the race car, not the street variant. Eventually they hope to make non-structural components. It is also more expensive--for now! https://www.popularmechanics.com/car...gt4-clubsport/
