Tesla says they delivered something like 90,000 of them in 2018, and as of Dec. 31 they had several thousand in inventory--so you can walk into a dealer and buy one today, if your state isn't so backwards that it prohibits Tesla from selling there.

I hope Rivian works out; they're going to be building those trucks in the old Mitsubishi factory in Normal.
Those are customer cars that Tesla failed to deliver before the end of the year. Musk has promised to compensate the buyers for the reduction in Federal Tax credit.

You can't walk into a Tesla dealership and drive away a car. All of their cars are made to order for a specific customer. What you can do is skip the 200K plus backorder and go to the front of the line. To skip the line you have to order a more expensive Model 3. A co-worker of mine did this last year and got his car in less than 2 weeks.

As to electric trucks: I would bet on the Workhorse W-15 being first to market. They are an established player in the EV step van market with hundreds of vehicles the road and a new order from UPS for 1000 more. Available as EV only or with a BMW range extender. Class 4 - 6 configurations. The W15 is the Class 4 van repackage into a truck layout.
