But that's Bluetooth from the phone to the car's audio system, not Bluetooth from the audio (or phone) to the speakers.

Of course I don't have a new phone :-) I find it much more convenient just to put the audio on a USB device myself.
Either way, that's going from phone to car's stereo, not direct to speakers. Using Bluetooth speakers in a car just seems silly, since you have to run the wires for power anyway.
