For the most part the mechanical work should be cheap. Like 100$ junk yard rear axle, 10$ electric fan etc... lol
I've converted my Astro Van to a campervan. (I'm working on my 3rd configuration right now). A huge amount of time was spent shaping everything to the contours of the van. Nothing is a straight line. After doing a van I'm looking at a box truck for our next campervan. I'm looking forward to working with a simple rectangle.

Also box trucks are pretty invisible if you are looking to stealth camp. At least here on the west cost van living is pretty popular so cops are on the lookout for van campers. No one will look twice at a box truck parked in an industrial area.
