I do see the left eating their own. I don't follow politics, so I can't point to a moderate left person of prominence. That said, I can't really point to a conservative either, perhaps with exception to Ron Paul.
Politicians make their living by proclaiming they have the solution to everyone's problems, but especially their constituents. "Expand my authority and I'll fix everything for you". You don't ever see a politician saying we're responsible for ourselves and capable of solving our own problems.
