Missoula is one of the nation's hub for aerial firefighting and also unfortunately prone to many horrible fires all around us. Yes I have been up close to all kinds of equipment and the old bags you talk of have been improved over the years like anything else. Many of the bags now have a controlled opening, and many helicopters store the water inside and drop through a hose out the bottom. But it's not about actually thinking outside the box, it's just another opportunity to hate somebody so it can't even be entertained.
