If the batteries are in there, at some point somebody will "break" the computer and gain the ability to actually own the property they bought. Just like government plans will be thwarted by crafty individuals so will big corporations plans. "Software limited" is temporary until new software is written. The only thing that might prevent it from happening is if they keep the production numbers low enough so there is no market of people who want to fix their car. Make 100,000 of them that way and a $500 "tune" to unlock everything will be out in a matter of months.
