GM just wants to be rid of the plant. It will cost them property taxes to keep it or millions to clean up and sell it.
My father-in-law worked for Eaton all his career. When Eaton closed his plant they demoed it to the concrete slab to reduce the property value and therefore the property taxes. They knew they would never find a buyer willing to buy it and assume the environmental responsibilities. In Flint, GM demoed several plants, capped them with new soil, and gave the property to Kettering University. Nothing will ever be built there again due to the pollution.
