A couple thoughts

First plenty of VW diesel vehicles passed smog USA & EU and then VW continued to mislead about that issue

Second ethanol has been around since the last oil crisis and Brazil set the domestic production pace with sugar cane . The USA (California specifically) EPA mandate that blended fuels have ethanol for major metropolitan areas aka LA . So now you and I have E10 octane 87 gasoline forced upon us . I am not a fan of currently ethanol blended gasoline. … both E10 and E15 shorten the life of a vehicle engine and outboard marine engine. Do a search on YouTube about phase separation of E10 gasoline ..
