The downstream O2 isn’t a critical part of engine operation for most engines (although I am not really familiar with K-series Hondas), it’s mostly there to monitor catalyst efficiency. But by allowing the car to operate without a constant CEL, you don’t have to constantly run a TC scan to make sure, and it just looks better.

I wouldn't have a CEL anyway because with my modified ECU I can just toggle the rear O2 sensor off. It's more a matter of principles.
