35 MPG with two aboard = 70 man-miles per gallon. With so many vehicles on the road carrying only one person, you have to wonder how much fuel burn could be avoided just by having people double up. And of course you're probably getting significantly better than just 35 while carpooling, it was just a convenient number to throw out there.

Sorry, facepalm: if everyone doubled up we could cut fuel burn (among private vehicles at least) by half. Duh.

And 40MPG towing beats any truck I've ever encountered, including my own.
