Part of the problem may be that I installed the thermostat on backwards. The thermostat is normally mounted upside down, which I think is a pretty bad design as it allows for air bubbles to get trapped there. I'll see if this ends up fixing the problem.

I think the head gasket should last longer than 100k miles in most cases. Very annoying that this is a common problem in subarus. I no longer think it is the problem though, but we will see.

I think this overheating may have helped me get better mileage though 😂
31 mpg was my last tank.
