My garage roof has cross beams under the main beams to store brooms, rakes, spare TL lamps etc.
And my car's rooftop box hangs from the garage ceiling like that, on its rack mounts. The lid is free and the lock is accessible.
I have not considered storing stuff inside it up till now. Hmm...
