The Mirage uses a JATCO CVT (Nissan's CVT supplier) that has a 2-speed subgearbox for a wider ratio. You can feel the low-high shift. But it doesn't do any "fake shifting" - it's rubber band all the time! So it's possible the Sentra uses something similar.
I was surprised how much I liked driving the CVT in
the Mirage G4 I tested out, if only because it was obvious the engineers were allowed to go pretty far to eke MPG out of the car. I loved the low-RPM cruising once up to speed - very quiet & relaxed driving experience.
