If or when another gas price spike occurs, I'm armed with a 2003 Honda Insight and a 2013 Volt. I paid $2,100 for the Insight and am averaging 63 MPG. I paid $2,400 for the Volt and am averaging 99 MPG. I had a second 2000 Insight, but sold it for $2,000 after buying the Volt. I still can't believe I got the Volt for so cheap!

I'm slowly making my way over to the EV world and it's pretty cool. I think if you can get into a sold EV or PHEV for less than $5k, it's worth the leap. It was tough to justify the Volt when comparing to an Insight when it's only going to save me $20/month on gas, but for only $2,400 I had to snag it!
