In December in the Netherlands Model 3 sales for 2019 went past the 20,000 mark...
And almost hit the 30,000 mark as well at
29,969 for the year.
The next best selling type in our market, the Volkswagen Polo (gas, diesel & CNG combined), only sold
13,443 last year.
No fewer than 12,062 Model 3 were delivered to customers in the Netherlands in December alone. A giant swoop to allow lease drivers to profit from a BIK tax reduction that gets reduced in steps each year, saving them thousands of Euros over a 5 year lease period compared to getting the car in the next year.
Shipments to other countries were delayed to allow as many Dutch customers to take advantage of the 2019 tax tier. Now 2020 is under way and the rest of Europe is getting their Model 3's; only a single unit was sold in the Netherlands in the first 4 days.
In December more EV's (54%) were sold than all other fuel types combined.
Even over the year there was a spectacular rise from 5% for 2018 to 13.5% for 2019.
Tesla is the
3rd largest car brand in the Netherlands for 2019, behind Volkswagen and Opel but ahead of Peugeot, Toyota, Renault, Ford, Kia, BMW and Mercedes.
