The confluence of dimensional architecture, lack of downforce and bad luck, the 1999 Le Mans Mercedes CLR-GT1 flew! The closed coupe bodywork (lift), flat bottom, narrower wheelbase, softer rear springs and long rear diffuser overhang, add to that a slight uphill crest on the track and swirling vortices of a racecar in front - aimed the pitch-sensitive car ever slightly upward enough for the large front overhang to suddenly lift the nose up. The rear wing firmly planted the rearwheels that is now the perfect pivot that exposed the full flat body work to completely and dramatically lift it in the air.
