As most know, I lean towards liberty whenever there is any question if it's the right thing or not, and in the same vein I believe in the right to privacy with regard to the government. That said, the benefits of 24/7 drone surveillance over public land outweigh the privacy infringement of citizens. If we're going to treat property crimes as if it was nothing; the violation of the home, which we say is the most sacred of personal spaces, then we need near 100% conviction of these "petty" crimes. Likewise, the US border everywhere needs to be treated like home, because it is. The security of home is probably most effectively secured with drone surveillance and AI algorithms.
My roommates car was rummaged through by a crook a couple weeks ago, and then my neighbor's car was broken into a few days later after I had warned him of the recent criminal activity. If we'd have caught the cretin, they'd spend a few hours in jail and be released.
