Wagons don't have to have a tailgate. They can and American wagons had them way back when but they disappeared in the 70's or 80's. My parents 9 passenger Oldsmobile wagon from the 70's had a gate. My 1990 Chevy Cavalier wagon did not nor did either of my VW Jetta Wagons.

Even back in the 70's European wagons didn't have tailgates. Volvo is known for their wagons and I can't think of one with a tailgate.

One of my favorite wagons before the current fade to angle the rear window and trade cargo room for "style"

I can buy that. It is a two door wagon.
