I should have asked her more about it, but from past conversations she says a lot of people just try and patent ideas they actually have no idea how it would ever be accomplished, then when a real scientist figures it out they are screwed because somebody else is sitting on a patent. This can slow down real progress. She was in charge of weapon patent approval the last time we talked shop but that was 2 years ago. Lasers could be in her wheelhouse but probably not windshield lasers. I did bring up Tesla at one point but she didn't spill any beans.
