The entire EU's economy is slightly larger than the USA. The entire "western" world is only about 30% of the global economy - and shrinking. The 2000's will be Asia's decade.

Iran will have problems.

Italy is part of the EU and will benefit from that and from their social safety net. Nobody is going to go bankrupt in Italy from medical bills, and nobody is going to lose their home. Italy has suspended loan, rent payments and layoffs for the duration of the crisis. At home workers are still getting paid and still have healthcare.
