Oh, there are so many more industries like that, that just haven't had their turn yet...
The pandemic relief bill going through Congress right now has a lot of sharks swimming around it trying to get their piece of free money.

But of course, historical trends have been eclipsed in the last month or two. I speculate that the USofA, Japan and Russia will be likely to bounce back. Iran and Italy no so much.
The Koreas will be interesting.

The entire EU's economy is slightly larger than the USA. The entire "western" world is only about 30% of the global economy - and shrinking. The 2000's will be Asia's decade.
Iran will have problems.
Italy is part of the EU and will benefit from that and from their social safety net. Nobody is going to go bankrupt in Italy from medical bills, and nobody is going to lose their home. Italy has suspended loan, rent payments and layoffs for the duration of the crisis. At home workers are still getting paid and still have healthcare.

The EU will probably crumble within a decade. Between poor economic decisions, the migrant problem, unsustainable welfare and energy policies, they’ll fall one by one.

We'll never be rid entirely of larger governing bodies, and that's a good thing.
As I keep saying, each larger organizing body should have an increasingly constrained function and authority.
Brexit is an adjustment away from a large organizational structure that had not properly constrained itself. Responsibility for any given issue should be given to the lowest/smallest-sized organizational group that can effectively tackle it. What I should eat for dinner isn't an appropriate issue for the UN to decide, and what amount of pollution I should be allowed to emit isn't appropriate for me to individually decide. Each organizational body needs to have their authority constrained and focused as sharply as possible to prevent them from becoming overreaching, inefficient, liberty destroying bureaucracies.

No. The UK never fully bought into the idea of the EU. They wanted the benefits without the costs and had a whole list of special arrangements to try to keep them happy. There economic problems are an excellent example to others what leaving gets you.

Yes. It started as an Economic Union and metasticized.
Four to seven of the Eastern-most countries shall persist.

Persist doing what?
The U.K. dropping out only makes the EU stronger. No different than when the friend that complains about everything doesn’t come to an event.
