While this is true, one might call the Accord Hybrid and 3rd gen Insight "EVs with range extenders" as well, because the engine only acts as a generator, with no direct connection to the wheels*. Only issue is, the battery in them is only ~1kwh, or good for maybe 3 miles without the engine running.

*Granted, above 60mph or so there's a clutch that can, in fact, send engine power to the wheels through a single speed reduction. However, the Versa Note Hybrid is essentially the same, a Leaf motor paired with a tiny ~1kwh battery and an engine which has no connection to the wheels.

Semantics, really. There are a lot of shades between EV and hybrid.
