How about masks from blue shop towels?

Strangely, Brave on my phone doesn't hit a paywall, but it did on Lappy.

Lindsay Medoff runs a small clothing manufacturer and didn't like people making masks out of cotton because it is too breathable. She also felt that the designs were inadequate. She and her friends made their own testing equipment and tried every material that they could find and she came up with her own design that seals much better.

They're also raising money to get their mask tested with the actual COVID-19 pathogen to see whether their design could be validated as a safer solution during the mask shortage.
As much as I appreciate professional opinion, professional testing seems better.
