I was vice-president of my junior college Republican party back in the day, mostly because there was only 10 of us and nobody else wanted the job. I've only voted twice, both times for W. Over time I saw the failings of that administration and the groupthink that happens in any party and swung towards center. Not sure how a Gore or Kerry administration would have played out differently. Probably would have avoided WMD fiasco. Where is Kerry these days? Don't know why the D's are pushing a dementia afflicted man that didn't get endorsed by his boss, or a Communist as the top contenders.
Now it's not even individual politicians I like, as none have consistent and reasonable positions. That means I'm left to take a position on individual issues and either agree or disagree with politicians on those issues.
Character-wise, I get much enjoyment from Trump trolling so-called reporters who act in bad faith. He's meeting them at their level, which is in the cesspool. My hope is that future administrations regardless of political affiliation continue to expose hacks hiding behind press badges. That said, Republicans get "questions" framed like "considering the millions of people you've personally raped, what do you have to say to your victims". Democrats get hard hitting questions framed like "which was the greater accomplishment in your service in office, reuniting tens of thousands of puppies with their owners, or providing safety to millions of vulnerable Americans".
Of course, I'd prefer objectivity to be the currency of discourse, but it seems an arms race to the bottom is what we're in for since we're more concerned about our side winning than good ideas winning.
