Q is a species, but you mostly just saw John de Lancie's character--and all of them called each other "Q."

[Insert "Doctor doctor doctor doctor" comparison here]

If you guys are unfamiliar with the main characters of the various Star Trek shows [He was in NextGen, DS9, and Vger] then I am sure that Zathras, not to be confused with his brother Zathras, or their brother Zathras, would go right over your head.

Red Point, you have been nice to me while the others that I addressed have been antagonistic. I was at a loss of how to politely respond to your apparent views of the princess in the White House, so I asked the man with the large collection of movies and shows of one that I mentioned recently and then ordered on DVD.

As I have said before, people who like Turnip are often those who write in all caps.

I liked the Republican party far more before he had his way with it.

Anyway, if anyone cares to be on-topic, as I mentioned, New York's new cases per day seems to vary more than other charts that I have seen. It keeps surging and spiking. After consecutive highs on the second and third, it had two relatively low days.

Then it spiked again, but the 7th and 8th were slightly lower than the 2nd and 3rd, so hopefully this is the peak, if not the downward slope.

Globally, new cases grew at 8.34% April 4th, 6.x% the 5th - 8th, and dropped to 5.97% for today.

Six data points are not much, but at this current rate we will be down to 4% growth on the 15th and 0% on the 28th.

However, that is thinking in one dimension. Even Khan thought in two dimensions!

Based on growth until March 26th we would have hit 1 billion cases May 21st with the current average that will not happen until May 30th.

On average, growth has decreased by 0.58% a day since the 26th. If this continues, we would have zero growth April 19th.

I for one do not want to see millions of people die! We will soon officially have 100,000, almost the equivalent to my entire county!

If this is the case we will peak at 2.2 million cases, but as I have said before, who knows?

Not me! I do not remember anything from my statistics class!

Ivanka?

How many 'others' are there? At Permalink #692 I was the one being threatened. My beef was with Snopes, not you. I really dislike these social media hoaxes you keep repeating. Although I did like the Gorilla Channel back in 2016.

I've been much harder on Fat Charlie; so, Fat Charlie, I apologize for the Qain't joke. It's seemed like a good idea at the time.

As for on-topic, has anyone seen an explanation for the mechanism COV-19 uses to wreak it's havoc? I've been looking for something official, but all I've found dances around the attack vector. Before the bi-lateral cytokine storm.

Not offended.

Haven't seen the dances. Stopped watching the dog and pony shows even before some networks decided to stop airing them, too.

Not seeing a lot of information being supplied regarding the care and feeding of the virus. So: it's entirely too early to coalesce the huge amount of data, or there are multiple avenues of infection, OR, no one is studying it closely. I remember the polio panic, this looks suprisingly familiar.

As did I. I've even voted for quite a few of them in the past. I'm one of those independents that actually vote for people from both parties. Which makes me very unhappy with our primary systems that makes you choose to vote in one primary or the other instead of using run-off elections to select the best candidate. The best candidates can't win primary elections.

I was vice-president of my junior college Republican party back in the day, mostly because there was only 10 of us and nobody else wanted the job. I've only voted twice, both times for W. Over time I saw the failings of that administration and the groupthink that happens in any party and swung towards center. Not sure how a Gore or Kerry administration would have played out differently. Probably would have avoided WMD fiasco. Where is Kerry these days? Don't know why the D's are pushing a dementia afflicted man that didn't get endorsed by his boss, or a Communist as the top contenders.

Now it's not even individual politicians I like, as none have consistent and reasonable positions. That means I'm left to take a position on individual issues and either agree or disagree with politicians on those issues.

Character-wise, I get much enjoyment from Trump trolling so-called reporters who act in bad faith. He's meeting them at their level, which is in the cesspool. My hope is that future administrations regardless of political affiliation continue to expose hacks hiding behind press badges. That said, Republicans get "questions" framed like "considering the millions of people you've personally raped, what do you have to say to your victims". Democrats get hard hitting questions framed like "which was the greater accomplishment in your service in office, reuniting tens of thousands of puppies with their owners, or providing safety to millions of vulnerable Americans".

Of course, I'd prefer objectivity to be the currency of discourse, but it seems an arms race to the bottom is what we're in for since we're more concerned about our side winning than good ideas winning.

.

The left in general liked the right better because the right would capitulate to the left on a more or less continuous basis. But not so much anymore.

I for one, appreciate a good reductio ad absurdem.

I was, for years, an Independent. Then for some reason I re-registered as a Libertarian. After a while they realized I wasn't a big-L Libertarian and they don't remember me.

I find nothing about political parties in the Constitution. I know they rose more or less organically post facto. My concern is that when the number of [viable] parties reduces to two, it's hard to raise it again. Even worse when it's only one.

The main difference I saw back then was one of the candidates in 2000 could count and the other couldn't. I try not to vote for people who can't count. The big argument in that campaign was over the social security "surplus". One of them claimed that there was too much money going into SS and we needed to give everyone a payroll tax cut. The other one claimed that regardless of SS' cash flow that year, its long term picture wasn't good. Dopey McTaxbreak won.

Turns out people who can't count also make other mistakes. We actually started ISIS over there, and they're still fighting, 17 years after we invaded. Not bad for a war we didn't actually need. And the Social Security Administration projects that in 15 years they'll have to cut benefits by 25%. You know, because they had a "surplus".
