The main difference I saw back then was one of the candidates in 2000 could count and the other couldn't. I try not to vote for people who can't count. The big argument in that campaign was over the social security "surplus". One of them claimed that there was too much money going into SS and we needed to give everyone a payroll tax cut. The other one claimed that regardless of SS' cash flow that year, its long term picture wasn't good. Dopey McTaxbreak won.
Turns out people who can't count also make other mistakes. We actually started ISIS over there, and they're still fighting, 17 years after we invaded. Not bad for a war we didn't actually need. And the Social Security Administration projects that in 15 years they'll have to cut benefits by 25%. You know, because they had a "surplus".
