Been on COVID-19 lock down for 6 weeks or so. Have owned my new truck for 1 month - put about 800 miles on it (which isn't very many for me).
Still breaking in the diesel engine - but the mileage seems to be creeping higher as the miles add up.
I've had the chance to tow both of my boats a couple of times. So far I'm very happy but I'm hoping the mileage will continue to improve over the next few months as I get more miles on the truck .
compared to my F150 with the 2.7L ecoboost I'm happy.
Towing Fishing boat (3500 lbs) 2.7L ecoboost (Ford) I got 9-10 mpg. 2.8L Duramax (GM) I get 18-20 mpg - cruise set running 70 mph.
Towing the Pontoon - (4500 lbs) shaped like a building - like pulling a sail.
2.7L ecoboost (Ford) I got 5 mpg. 2.8L Duramax (GM) I get 10-12 mpg - cruise set at 70.
So - my decision to switch from a small V6 to a diesel turbo 4 is generating positive results - 33% to 50% increase in mileage compared to the gasser
