GMC CANYON DURAMAX DIESEL!
Hi team,
I just picked up a new 2020 GMC Canyon with the 2.8L duramax diesel.
Its a crew cab 4x4 Denali & i traded my 18 f150 with the 2.7l ecoboost for it.
Long story short i was very disappointed with the fuel economy ofvthe 2.7L ecoboost.
I have several trailers & tow something maybe 20 to 30% of the time, however my max towing is under 5k#, so the F150 was bigger than i needed.
I liked the truck & never had a single problem, not 1. But the lil 2.7L gasser got 9mpg towing my 20ft aluminium fishing boat (just under 4k#) & she pulled a whopping 5mpg towing the pontoon.
Not good. & considering i pull the boat about an hour each way to my fishing hole, & i go a couple of times each week & it adds up quick.
So ive been on the fence for about 6 months & actively looking for 3 when in walks a pandemic that all but ends new car sales.
I smell an opportunity......i had negotiated & put a deposit down on my truck but i backed out thinking there will be more incentives.
Boom, i ended up saving an additional $4500 off the price & i got a 8 yr 165k mile bumper to bumper warranty.
Now i need to break in the engine and get to making good mileage.
Down side is diesel is about $1 per gallon more expensive than gas, but if i can pull high 20s or low 30s with a 4x4 truck its easily worth it.
Anyhow- thats me. I look forward to learning from you guys!

Holy cow.
I know a bunch of diesel guys and none of them actually haul. The only one I don't laugh at has a long, droning highway commute and a Jetta. It's great to meet you, welcome to the fun.
I'm especially impressed with your deal. I expected the end of April to be when dealerships started giving things away.

Been on COVID-19 lock down for 6 weeks or so. Have owned my new truck for 1 month - put about 800 miles on it (which isn't very many for me).
Still breaking in the diesel engine - but the mileage seems to be creeping higher as the miles add up.
I've had the chance to tow both of my boats a couple of times. So far I'm very happy but I'm hoping the mileage will continue to improve over the next few months as I get more miles on the truck .
compared to my F150 with the 2.7L ecoboost I'm happy.
Towing Fishing boat (3500 lbs) 2.7L ecoboost (Ford) I got 9-10 mpg. 2.8L Duramax (GM) I get 18-20 mpg - cruise set running 70 mph.
Towing the Pontoon - (4500 lbs) shaped like a building - like pulling a sail.
2.7L ecoboost (Ford) I got 5 mpg. 2.8L Duramax (GM) I get 10-12 mpg - cruise set at 70.
So - my decision to switch from a small V6 to a diesel turbo 4 is generating positive results - 33% to 50% increase in mileage compared to the gasser

What about the DEF consumption? In my country there is only the Chevrolet version, which retained the S10 nameplate for reasons that might sound quite pointless at first (soccer and politics), and it doesn't have SCR (yet).

haven't really checked DEF yet - hardly any miles on the truck so I doubt I've used much. I'll keep an eye on it though - as I will be towing one boat or the other no less than 1 or 2 x per week. Once the weather warms up i will use the boat 3 or 4 times per week.

Cool, welcome to the forum and the diesel truck club
18~20 towing anything is great! IF you slow it down the numbers will get quite impressive.
In my immediate 3 state area, the max towing limit is the same as the truck speed limit, so we hang out around 55~60 with the commercial trucks.

It might be interesting to compare DEF consumption on different weather and load conditions.

Def is @ 71%. I have 1300 miles on the truck total & the def was at 100% when I picked it up. Probably half of these miles i was towing. Since we are on lockdown fishing is the only time i drive beyond 2 minute runs to the store.
