When I boughr my 06 Subaru Forrester XT (Big body WRX) the other contenders on the lot were a 4 door Baja turbo (Ute bodied WRX),and the big dog the STI(race quality sadan). The El Caminos and rancheros did not originate on subframe based platforms , the early ones were based on cars with body on frame. Therefore that argument the Avalanche isnt a bird of the same feather, is not valid.
There was a market for theas ute's in the 80's the Baja appealed to me greatly because growing up I saw so many Volkswagen Pup(?)( About the only diesel on the market that wasn't built to haul and Abrams tank and slowly ) Subaru Brat, and they were diffrent.
