Pretty much anything that shrinks when drying is useable on fabric. I have used acrylic house paint and old fashioned oil based. Polyurethane works too. I also have used epoxied cotton as a poor man's 'glass.

If you use cotton fabric it needs to be raw, 8-10 oz per square yard and not grieged , wetted to shrink. Most fabric shops have a dacron fabric in this weight that also heat shrinks using a hot air gun.
